Representation that listens

A graduate of both Weber High and Weber State University, Ryan was raised on a dairy farm here in Weber County and has deep roots in our community. He and his wife Kristina are the proud parents of five children, ranging from a Senior in High School to a brand new kindergartner. With a lifelong music educator for a mother, and a wife who has served as both a teacher and librarian, (and all five children in our local schools) Ryan understands the importance of education. He currently serves on the board of the Ogden School Foundation, focused on raising critical funds from the private sector that bypass the bureaucracy of government and impact our students and teachers directly, based on classroom needs.

The current chairman of the House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee, Representative Wilcox previously served as both a State Legislator and Senior Policy Advisor and Northern Utah Director for United States Senator Mike Lee. As such, Ryan understands federalism and the intersection between real-life and policy decisions made in Washington D.C. and Salt Lake City. Ryan is a constitutionalist at heart and has written and passed numerous pieces of legislation to protect and reinforce our fundamental rights, including ensuring a balanced budget without a single tax increase as the Chair of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee. Ryan is most passionate about protecting our basic liberties delineated in the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights and has spent the better part of a decade of public service working to that end. Some of the legislation he sponsored can be found on the Wikipedia page at the link below.

In his “spare” time, Ryan enjoys coaching, teaching, scouting, community service, and mostly, being a dad. He served in the Utah House of Representatives representing District 7 (Northern Weber County) from 2009-2014 after which he served as a Senior Policy Advisor and Northern Utah Director in the United States Senate. He returned to the private sector in 2018, where he currently works in the Healthcare sector.

FOREIGN RELATIONS SERVICE - U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT

A somewhat unique honor for a State Representative, Rep. Wilcox was selected by the U.S. State Department to represent the United States on two separate foreign relations assignments to Eastern Europe (2011) and Mexico (2012) while serving in the Utah House of Representatives. Working with Diplomats, Governors, Foreign Service Officers, NGO’s, Presidents, and even a real-life princess to strengthen relations and promote American ideals abroad.

Ask him about the Mexican electoral process and debating the former Mexican Foreign Minister (who was supposed to be moderating the debate) in Mexico City if you want to hear a great story.
